[About the Materials]
We generously use “Yasuki Steel (Aogami No. 2)” for the blade tip.
Using the same manufacturing method as traditional sword smiths, we hammer the metal while it is red-hot to combine two types of iron (Yasuki Steel and soft Steel) into a single blade, thereby increasing the metal’s density (hardness).
This is because, just as with swords, the steel must be hard and tough to achieve superior sharpness, while the base metal must be soft and brittle.
This Skiving knife offers exceptional sharpness, excellent edge retention, and is easy to sharpen.
You’ll experience a level of sharpness that cannot be achieved with mass-produced, stamped knives.

[About Hamon]
All of our skiving knives feature beautiful hamon.
This pattern emerges when two types of steel with different properties are combined into a single blade.
We use three different types of whetstones to sharpen the blades by hand, following the sequence of “rough finish → medium finish → final finish.”
This process results in beautiful hamon visible at the blade tip, just like on a Japanese sword.

[About Ura-suki]
There is a recess on the back of the blade called “Ura-suki.”
The Ura-suki reduces the surface area that comes into contact with the whetstone during sharpening, making it easier to achieve a flat edge.
This design feature allows you to quickly restore the blade to its exceptional sharpness when it begins to lose its edge.

[About the Original Design]
Conventional skaiving knives did not have a symmetrical blade.
The downside of this was that, because the left and right sides of the blade were different sizes, the amount of pressure required varied during sharpening.
As a result, inexperienced users often ended up sharpening the blade at an angle, making it difficult to get a sharp edge.
By making the blade “symmetrical relative to the wooden handle,” we’ve made it easy to apply consistent pressure on both sides during sharpening.
Since sharpening is essential in leather crafting, we aimed to create a “skiving knife that’s easy to sharpen.”
It’s designed for both right- and left-handed users, so it suits anyone.

[About the Design on the Back of the Blade]
The design on the back of the blade is modeled after that of a traditional Japanese sword.
We deliberately left black areas on the back of the blade because we wanted to create a skiving knife that combines both ruggedness and precision.

[About the Wooden Handle]
The wooden handle is made of “Magnolia Obovata.”
Magnolia Obovata is a type of wood with a high oil content, and its key characteristics include:
❶ High water resistance, even when sharpening blades with water. ❷ The metal parts inserted into the wooden handle are resistant to rust.
This wood has been used for sword sheaths and kitchen knives since ancient times.
